Announcement and Call for Papers

The year 2003 is the Bicentenary of the Great Russian writer Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev’s birth, who was born in December 1803. To celebrate his contribution to Russian thought and literature, an International Seminar is being held at the Centre of Russian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, from 5–7 November 2003.

While Tyutchev’s lyrical poetry reflects his philosophic view of Nature’s abundance, his letters and essays reflect his philosophic political opinion. Befittingly, the theme of this International Seminar is «Traditions of Philosophical Poetry in Russian and Indian Literatures». While celebrating this great writers bicentennial, the Seminar shall provide a comparative literary viewpoint by tracing the tradition of philosophical poetry in Russian and Indian Literatures; examine Tyutchev’s works in context of contemporary Russian Literature, and at the same time raise awareness about Tyutchev’s works in India.

This important academic and literary event will bring together international scholars, experts and writers for three days of intense interaction, exchange of ideas and experiences, and fellowship. The International Seminar shall have guest lectures, invited symposia, panel discussions, free papers, poetry reading sessions, and other oral and audio-visual presentations.

The Organising Committee invites papers and symposia on the Seminar theme or related topics.
